Reading for Creativity

I watch too much TV.

Streaming services has made this worse. I hate commercials and being able to watch commercial free has increased my desire to watch.

However, at the end of 2019, my family and I went on a college visit for my daughter. It was a five-hour car ride, so I listened to an audiobook. I get car sick, so an audiobook was my only option. When I got home, I remembered how much I like reading. I like using my imagination and seeing the setting and the people in my mind how I created them. I like the feeling of anticipation of getting back to the book. So, I decided I needed to read more in 2020.

Of course, goals need to be specific. I set the goal of a book a week – with a little wiggle room. Four books a month. 48 books read in 2020. By mid-March I was on track. I had read 10 books. Then quarantine began. I already had many books at home and made use of my library’s digital services. I was able to leap ahead.

Why is reading important for someone who is seeking out creativity in daily life? According to Healthline.com reading helps with brain strength, increases empathy, and reduces stress! See below for info!

When the world opened a bit more I went back to work. The weather improved and I got outside. I slowed down and got out of the habit. So, I had to pick up the pace again in October.

As 2020 ends I’m ready to reach my goal. I have 2 more books to reach 48. As I continue to seek out creativity, I will continue to track my progress as a reader. I will read 4 books a month to keep my mind sharp, force it to work harder and keep the creativity flowing.
